Background: Brought up in a Brethren Gospel Hall. Sent out as a supported missionary to Pakistan in 1953 -1959. Became Independent 1959-1962. Joined Interserve (Interdenominational Mission agency) 1968-1984. Served with United Bible Societies 1984-1995.

Management

Printing Press: Calcutta, India 1962-1965. Managed a Bookshop and Publishing organization producing a variety of materials, books, promotional materials, greeting cards and other Bookshop items distributing these throughout North East India on a retail basis and throughout the whole of India on a wholesale basis. Publications were produced in a variety of major Indian languages such as Bengali, Hindi, Oriya and well as many small dialects for North East India.

Lahore, Pakistan 1955 - 1958 Managed a Printing Press producing materials for advertising companies in Lahore along with the production of Christian literature and Bibles.

Hospital Administration

Bahrain, 1980 -1982. Administration of Maintenance and Construction division of the Mission Hospital. Major reconstruction of Staff Quarter of the hospital together with the architects from the Bahrain Oil Company.
Kabul, Afghanistan 1968-1971. Administration of the Noor Eye Project; Government relations with Afghan Health Department; personnel management of Project members; construction of Blind School and Eye Hospital; trachoma projects in the Provinces.
Project Development and Building Construction
Bahrain 1980-1982 Remodeling and reconstruction of Staff Quarters for the Mission Hospital Bahrain. Financing, supervision of Urdu speaking construction crews, organizing materials , liaison with architect and Hospital Board
Bangladesh 1972-1973. From a base in New Delhi, building up a project team leading to the development of the Heed Project, an NGO devoted to development.
New Delhi, India 1972-1975. Building of Ambassador Printing Press facilities in an Industrial park in New Delhi.
Kabul, Afghanistan 1968-1971 Supervision of Afghan building crews and contractors during the construction of the Blind School and the beginnings of the Eye Hospital. Maintenance responsibility for Staff Housing and Vehicle repair. Outfitting of project teams for work in Provinces.

Small Business Consulting

Hongkong 1984-1995. Relating to 21 National organisations with their own autonomous Boards. Basic business consulting relating to financing, budgeting, product development and planning, marketing strategy, development of distribution outlets, credit policies, bill collecting, cash flow management, recruiting, training , development, retention and dismissal of Staff.
Kabul, Afghanistan 1968-1971. International finance funding, finding donors, reporting to donors, relations with Afghan Govt. Ministry of Health. Banking with limited resources, exchange rates and money changing.
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada 1965-1968 Management of Bookshop and Stationery Outlet in local strip mall. Canadian conditions relating to finance, operation and staffing.
Calcutta India 1963-1965. Management of Bookshop and Publishing House with extensive links throughout India and beyond. Budgeting with limited resources, funding sources, multi ethnic staff situation with many external and internal cross cultural tensions. Board made up of local Calcutta people was well as internationals.
Lahore, Pakistan 1955-1958. Management of Printing press; financial planning, budgeting, invoicing, accounts payable, credit management, accounts receivable, debts, personnel management.

Publishing

Hongkong 1984-1995. Extensive contacts throughout Asia Pacific from a Regional Centre covering the area from Pakistan in the West to New Zealand in the South and Japan and Korea in the north. Regular visits to the 21 national centres. Involved in research planning, product development locally and region wide promotions, printing co ordination on a Regional basis, in country and international promotion of publications, marketing strategies, development of distribution outlets, enlargement of customer base, new and innovative opportunities. Evaluation of distributed materials, reassessment and republication of older titles.
Calcutta, India 1962-1965. Subcontracting of printing in English, Bengali, Hindi, Oriya and many other dialects of N E India. Operation of a retail Bookshop in Calcutta serving the city and a wide area of NE India by mail order and promotional tours. Production of wholesale items for sale in other bookshops throughout India.
Lahore, Pakistan 1955-1958. Printing of materials in English and Urdu for distribution throughout Pakistan. Manuscript selection, translation into Urdu, layout and design, marketing strategies and distribution channels.

Personnel

Hong Kong 1984-1995. Advising National organizations on recruitment. Development of overall ethos and culture of the organization through seminars, country visits and promotional literature. Regular seminars to upgrade personnel on the new developments. Encouragement to improve product development, marketing strategies and customer service. Non monetary incentives and rewards, career development. Provisions for retirement, emergencies, housing and other personal needs.
Tehran Iran 1977-1979 Regional responsibility for ex patriot organizational members throughout the Gulf and Middle East. Orientation of newly arriving members, placement, support, evaluation, language learning supervision, debriefing on exit.
Kabul Afghanistan 1969-1971. International expatriate staff management involving members from many different countries of North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia. All volunteer type staff . Locally hired Afghan staff. Housing, support, government relations relatives to visas and exit permits, development meetings, encouragement and other needed support.
Lahore, Pakistan; Calcutta India 1955-1965 working with national staff at the factory and shop level. Inter cultural tensions; staff development; monetary and non monetary incentives, training, pension and provident fund provisions. Working conditions, housing, family responsibilities.
